Eric Cary to Renew Maryland

Jobs

As Senator one of my main objectives is to assist in bringing jobs and businesses to Montgomery County and to Maryland. It is also very critical for Maryland to work directly with local businesses to assist in retaining jobs and creating new jobs in the private sector, keeping jobs in local areas and to help businesses expand. There is also a need for a long and short term approach to creating jobs in District 14 and throughout Maryland.

I believe that we must formulate and foster both relationships with businesses, developers and local governments that focus on environmentally friendly, transit oriented development. I understand as a small business owner that small business owners are the backbone of America and of Maryland. It is vital that we discover ways to create incentives for companies that create jobs in Maryland and discourage those that export jobs out of state and out of our country. I promise to fight for all of us here in District 14 and Maryland in Annapolis to make sure that our tax funded stimulus dollars taken from our hands, piggy banks, purses and wallets are NOT used to fund projects that increase budget deficits.

Taxes & Spending

In 2007, Governor O'Malley called for a special session of the State Legislature and asked legislative Democrats to pass the largest tax hike in Maryland's history. Four years ago, Maryland's unemployment rate was 3.5%. Under O'Malley's tenure, it has reached 7.7% with no relief in site.

It is time to stop sending fiscally irresponsible representatives to Annapolis. The constituents of Maryland are NOT an open checkbook that Annapolis can tap anytime the mood hits them. We need common sense leadership that will balance the budget by cutting spending and not just raising taxes.

Yes, we need to stop the out of control spending. We need to get back to the basics....by spending within our means. The money is not the government of Maryland's money it is "OUR" money, yours and mine. If this spending is not reduced, increased taxes are the Democrats only option. Do we want to live through a repeat of the Special Session Tax Party of 2007?

Education

Our schools in Montgomery County are ranked along with some of the best in the country. Our children are the foundation of Maryland's future. I do agree with parents having the choice of school vouchers or tax credits to provide the best educational opportunity for their specific needs. I am opposed to funding non-public schools directly out of public school budgets. On the other hand I do not agree with restricting non-public schools from participating in grant programs as long as they fit the criteria to participate.

Immigration

First let me say that I am Pro-Naturalization. Immigrants who come to this country LEGALLY make our country stronger and more competitive in the global market. Illegal immigration has become a huge concern since our federal, some local and state governments have been unwilling to enforce current laws and protect our borders. Unfortunately, the State of Maryland and local governments have enacted numerous policies which only reward and encourage illegal immigration.

Some of the solutions to resolve the immigration issues are at the national level, but there are solutions that can be presented at the local and state level that should work in concert with federal regulations and laws.

On the campaign trail

Getting the word out and meeting people. There has been a lot of talk over the past few years about "change." We have to admit that there has been a good bit of that going on here in Maryland, but the change we have been experiencing is not the change it needs. Real substantive change has to begin with us as citizens electing representatives that actually speak and represent US the voter.
